Pickled Red Onions with Fresh Herbs

Ingredients
  

  • 4 Red Onions
  • 1/2 cup Organic Cane Sugar
  • 4 tbsp Sea Salt
  • 4 cups Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 4 cups Filtered Water
  • 4 tbsp Fresh Herbs of Choice

Equipment

  • 1 Gallon Wide Mouth Gallon Mason Jar
  • 1 Chef's Knife and Cutting Board mandolin for quicker use

Method
 

  1. Making pickled red onions is fairly simple and quick. Start my slicing 4 red onions.
  2. Fill a 1-gallon wide mouth mason jar with sliced red onions.
  3. Mix a 1/2 cup of cane sugar, 4 tbsp of sea salt, 4 cups apple cider vinegar, and 4 cups of filtered water.
  4. Pour liquid mixture into jar with red onions.
  5. I like to add some fresh herbs from my garden for extra flavor. For this batch I grabbed a small handful of basil and a couple sprigs of thyme. Chop herbs of choice and add to the jar.
  6. Let the jar sit out to marinate for same day use. For later use store in the refrigerator.
  7. Stores in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
